When you look at a person, you can’t tell if they’re Deaf. But can you imagine what it is like to live in a hearing world? A world where most people can make themselves understood.

Here at Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD), we work to ensure that Deaf people have access to services in British Sign Language. From supporting children and families, to helping Deaf people find work, to befriending older people; we are here to make sure the people who use our services get the support they want, when they need it and that it’s accessible to them.

This Christmas, we urgently need your help to enable us to reach more Deaf people.

We are asking you to join in this festive season and make a donation or hold a special ‘Silent night’ fundraising event to make a Deaf Christmas bright. This could be something like a sponsored silence in your school or business, or even a dinner party with friends where no one can communicate using sound.

A donation as little as £5 could pay for a gift from a special signing Santa for a Deaf child at a RAD Christmas party.

£25 could pay for one family sign session, introducing sign language to a family unit so a Deaf child can feel included and involved.

Raising £100 could pay for one month’s befriending support for a Deaf older person, making sure they feel part of their community and not isolated and alone.

£500 could pay for one life skills session for eight Deaf people with learning difficulties, teaching them skills such as cooking basic dishes; helping them be empowered and independent.

Thank you for helping us create a better, more accessible future for Deaf people.
